Green Gold Burundi is proud to announce the official launch of preparations for a carbon project in Burundi, aligned with its sustainable avocado farming program. This initiative represents a major step in advancing climate-smart agriculture, carbon credit development, and environmental sustainability in East Africa.
As part of this strategic initiative, Green Gold Burundi is strengthening its avocado production systems to improve both productivity and quality. Key actions include the promotion of modern agronomic practices, the use of organic fertilizers, and the implementation of efficient farm management techniques. These efforts support sustainable agriculture in Burundi, while increasing yields and enhancing long-term farm resilience.
To ensure effective execution, a dedicated internal commission has been established to oversee the development of the carbon credit project. This team will lead the project structuring, coordinate with key stakeholders, and prepare for certification under international carbon standards such as verified carbon standards (VCS) and other global climate frameworks.
Looking ahead, Green Gold Burundi aims to achieve a major milestone by 2028, with the planned launch of carbon credit production from avocado farming, supported by more than 20 million Hass avocado trees. This large-scale initiative positions the company as a key player in carbon markets in Africa, sustainable agribusiness, and climate change mitigation.
