Green Gold Burundi continues to make significant strides in promoting sustainable horticulture across the country. Most recently, the organization has expanded its avocado development program into Gitega Province, focusing on Bugendana Commune and Giheta Zone in Gitega Commune.
This strategic move aligns with Green Gold Burundi’s mission to support rural communities through environmentally friendly and economically viable agricultural initiatives. The selected areas present favorable agroecological conditions for avocado production, making them ideal zones for long-term investment.
During field visits and planning sessions with local farmers, the Green Gold Burundi team provided technical guidance, distributed improved avocado seedlings, and engaged community leaders on the importance of organized and market-oriented production.
The expansion in Gitega is part of a broader national effort to structure the avocado value chain, improve household incomes, and position Burundi as a competitive player in the regional and international avocado market.
